What is Wisdom Teeth Removal?

Apr 09, 2018

Wisdom tooth extraction or removal is a procedure to pull the wisdom teeth when they are no longer viable to remain in the mouth. Extractions are necessary when teeth become overcrowded or when an infection occurs due to an impacted tooth.

Ideally, wisdom teeth erupted properly and with plenty of room and the gums. However it is common for wisdom teeth to become impacted inside the gums or two only emerge partially through the gums. Overcrowding can lead to tooth decay or gum disease and impacted teeth can lead to infection. It is because of these consequences that overcrowded or impacted wisdom teeth must be removed.

What is the procedure for wisdom teeth removal?

Before the procedure begins, you will be given a local anesthetic to help numb the area, and if needed, you may request dental sedation to ease dental anxiety. The process to pull the tooth will then begin. In some cases, the gum around the tooth may need to be cut away. At Rossland Landing Dental Care of Ajax, Royal College of Dental Surgeons board-certified dentist Dr. Peter Yao performs wisdom tooth extraction procedures. He will do all he can to ensure that your procedure is as quick and painless as possible. Check-out wisdon teeth removal Ajax.
